Our Sanctuary is located in Moinho, a large and fertile valley between the foothills of the Serra Geral do Parana and the Sierra Fria. Has a core of simple and small houses surrounded by farms and ranches. It housed the first flour mill in Chapada dos Veadeiros.
We are 230 kilometers north of Brasilia the federal capital of Brasil. There are no regular flights to the Chapada region. Flyers usually land in Brasilia (frequent flights from main airports in USA, and from any other citie in Brazil) then travel overland to Moinho.
Because of the amazing energy present in the region, it attracts people interested in mysticism and ecotourism. It is also famous for its waterfalls, hiking trails and unforgettable landscape.
The region is of outstanding beauty, and is made up of wide plateaus with waterfalls and crystal clear springs. The uplands give way to deep rocky canyons and valleys. Cerrado is the predominant kind of vegetation. The trees are low and curved, and the vegetation is usually ground-high. It is similar to the Savana vegetation in Africa.
Cerrado wildlife, including orchids, buritis and many threatened animal species such as the pampadeer, swamp deer, jaguars, guará wolves, rheas, crested seriemas, tapitis (small hare-like rodents), giant armadillos, great anteaters, capybaras, tapirs, red-breasted toucans, king vultures and black vultures.
Chapada’s climate is tropical, hot and semi-arid. The average annual temperature is around 25ºC (77ºF) and Chapada dos Veadeiros is interesting to visit both in the dry season and the rainy one.
The Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, located 40km from our Sanctuary, has an area with 65,515 hectares with plenty of great landscapes, gorgeous waterfalls and lakes and is sought after by many travelers in search of true contact with nature.
